The August 20 episode of WWE NXT saw a Number 1 Contender’s match between Wes Lee, Pete Dunne and TNA Wrestling’s Joe Hendry.

The full match can be seen below this news story with Hendry earning an NXT Championship match at NXT No Mercy on September 1, 2024.

All this came despite attempts by Ethan Page to thwart Hendry’s chances, although he wasn’t the only TNA Wrestling star to be involved as WWE NXT came to a close.

Post-match, Zachary Wentz attacked his former MSK partner Wes Lee, as can be seen in the video below this news story.

This came after Lee and Wentz lost to Axiom and Nathan Fraser on the August 6 episode of WWE NXT, seeing an opportunity to become three-time NXT Tag Team Champion slip through their fingers.

With Lee taking out his frustration on Wentz, he would go on to attack his Rascalz teammate, Trey Miguel after the match, too.

Wentz has now commented on his return to WWE NXT and the attack he launched on Lee, tweeting:

“Talk sh*t, get your ass beat.

“I don’t play about me and mine.”

While Lee may not be contending for the NXT Championship, his opponent for NXT No Mercy was revealed at the tapings for the August 27 episode of NXT.

As for the NXT Tag Team Championships, Axiom and Nathan Frazer would lose those to Chase U on the August 13 episode of WWE NXT.

With Andre Chase and Ridge Holland now NXT Tag Team Champions, Shawn Michael’s could be heard “That was so good” as they came back through the curtain.

This victory marks the first WWE gold that Holland has held since signing with WWE in May 2018.
